About Scott
Based on a detailed analysis of the books borrowed registers of the Boston Athenaeum from 1826 to 1850, Practical Purposes connects the books being read by Boston scientists, engineers, and corporate promoters with what they were doing. Additionally, Practical Purposes explores why some books in science and technology were preferred to others on the same topic. The STEM domains covered include hydraulics and steam engines, pyronomics and hydraulic turbines, chemistry, botany, geology, mineralogy, mathematics, astronomy, architecture, and agriculture. Scott can be contacted at sguthery@gmail.com. The book is available on Amazon.
